Theatre On Ice (TOI) is a form of competitive figure skating that is popular in Europe, where it is known as Ballet on Ice. It combines the grace of figure skating with the excitement of theater and dance. Teams consist of between eight and 24 skaters. Solo skating is discouraged, but is permitted in limited amounts if it enhances the overall telling of the program's story. The programs are judged and are evaluated on technical merit and presentation with emphasis on originality, costuming, artistry and musicality.
By being part of iStage, skaters receive the following benefits:
- More opportunities for competitions and events
- A chance to develop the dramatic side of their skating
- A chance to be a part of a team whilst continuing to use their technical skills
- A chance to travel both nationally and internationally
- A chance to make new friends
As well as regularly training at Macquarie Ice Rink, iStage often undertake activities away from the ice including dance training, visiting the theatre and even attending circus school. We love to learn new skills and endeavour to improve our theatrical skills so that our on ice performances bring even more "Theatre " to our skating.
In July 2016 iStage were thrilled to be invited to be the pre-show performance for Feld Entertainments, Disney On Ice 'Magical Festival' at Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney. It was a once in a lifetime opportunity for the 21 skaters taking part and certainly a day that will live with us all forever. iStage has also been involved in charity events, including Variety's world record breaking Most Skating Santas held at Bondi in July 2012 along with numerous Winter Festivals around Sydney including the Skating At Festivals at St Mary's Cathedral, Parramatta and Bathurst. Each December we are invited to perform at Sydney Ice Theatre's annual show based at Penrith Ice Palace which is always a huge treat for our skaters and a lot of fun!
To support all of our adventures, the iStage family fundraise tirelessly and are always looking for new and innovative ways to fund our activities. Throughout the year iStage can be found hosting sausage sizzle events at Officeworks, along with selling Cadbury's chocolate via schools and workplaces. In the run up to major events, such as Nations Cup, iStage have hosted Trivia Nights, Cocktail Parties and run raffles. iStage also sell skating related merchandise which can be found for sale in our Merch tab. If you are interested in offering your support to the teams iStage have a GoFund Me page along with Sponsorship Packages available.
